Kick off the spring 2024 semester with the Center for Research and Creative Activities and the Center for International Education as we welcome Dr. Michal Choinski back to SSU

Dr. Choinski of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow is an expert in literature of the U.S. South.  He will discuss themes from various contemporary works which explore the dilemmas of mobility, the meaning of home, and the struggles of regional expatriation in the context of the U.S. South. His research was based on a series of interviews he conducted, among others, with writers and poets, such as Natasha Trethewey and Monique Truong.

Choinski’s latest book Southern Hyperboles  came out with Louisiana State University Press in 2020. He has published essays, poems and translations of poetry in journals in Poland, US, UK and Canada. Choinski’s pamphlet, Gifts Without Wrapping came out with the Hedgehog Press as a winner of a poetry competition. He was a guest lecturer, teaching literature and creative writing at various universities in the US (Yale University, University of South Carolina, Salem State University, and College of Charleston), UK (Queens University), and Italy (University of Padua). In 2020, he was awarded with senior Fulbright Fellowship at Yale University.
