Sign-ups for several first-year programs open today, Tuesday June 30, at noon.
FIRST-YEAR DAY OF SERVICE
200 incoming first-year (and new transfer) students will have the opportunity to participate in the annual first-year day of service. Make new friends, have an impact on the community, and start your college journey on the right foot! More information is available on the website. "Participating in Day of Service gave me a great sense of connection and made me want to do good things in life and help others!"
FIRST YEAR READING EXPERIENCE
Incoming first-year students can connect with other students to share their ideas and thoughts about issues and topics of our time through a common book. Students will be able to choose from 8 different books focusing on different topics, and will be provided the book free of charge. This is a fantastic opportunity to make friends and discuss ideas over free coffee and snacks. More information is available on the website. "The best part of this program was being able to connect with others, break the ice, and have interesting discussions while talking freely about my opinions."
COHORT-BASED COACHING PROGRAMS
Every first-year student receives a success coach at Salem State. Some students will be eligible to participate in one of our cohort-based coaching programs and commit to meet with their coach for 30 minutes every other week (7 times throughout the semester). The programs (Emerging Scholars, RISE, STEP, and La Vida Scholars) all have different benefits, and help connect students through social and community events in addition to the success coaching meetings. More information is available on the website. "I would definitely recommend this to any students who wants to feel seen, supported, and encouraged. Being part of this program reminded me that I'm never alone, and that means everything to me." (Past participant)
Students will receive the sign-in links/invitations via their Salem State email account. All programs fill up quickly, so students are encouraged to reserve their spot as soon as sign-ups open.
