Supporting equity-minded child welfare practice through certificate programs
Agency-university partnerships play a key role in providing professional development opportunities for the child welfare workforce through certificate programs. This presentation will include an overview of the collaborative work of the Salem State University School of Social Work and the MA Department of Children and Families on certificates in equity-minded practice (EMP) for supervisors and managers, and for direct practice child protection workers. The concept of equity-mindedness refers to the perspective or mode of thinking and practice exhibited by practitioners who call attention to patterns of inequity in client processes and outcomes. EMP is becoming more familiar in social work, with great relevance for the child protection sector. Certificate program descriptions, a review of the equity-minded practice framework as it applies to child welfare practice, and program evaluation data will be presented.
