Supporting Latiné College Student Success
This presentation explores strategies to support the success of Latiné college students by addressing the academic, sociocultural, and intersectional identities that shape their experiences. Using an intersectional perspective, the presentation examines how identities such as ethnicity, immigration background, first-generation status, socioeconomic status, and gender interact to influence students’ academic engagement and sense of belonging. Latiné students often navigate higher education while balancing family responsibilities, sociocultural expectations, financial pressures, and systemic barriers. This presentation uses case vignettes for discussion and to build knowledge of culturally responsive academic support and institutional practices that validate students' lived experiences. Culturally- informed recommendations will be shared by both the presenter and participants based on their own teaching and administrative experiences supporting Latiné students and creating inclusive environments.
