Featuring Lew Finfer, Co-Chair of the Boston Desegregation and Busing Initiative and Director of Massachusetts Action for Justice, and Leola Hampton, who experienced the Boston busing era firsthand, this series examines advocacy efforts to improve schooling, community resistance, and the lived experiences of desegregation in Massachusetts.

Boston Busing: Advocacy and Opposition

Join us for a discussion on the organizing and activism that emerged to confront unequal schooling in Boston, as well as an examination of the public backlash and opposition to the busing policy. A light breakfast will be served!

BHM Lunch and Learn: Boston Busing Oral Histories

Doors open at 12 pm | Program: 12:15-1:30 pm

Join us for a Black History Month Lunch & Learn exploring Boston’s busing era through history and lived experience. Lunch will be served at noon, and the program will begin promptly at 12:15 pm with an overview of Boston busing and desegregation history by Lew Finter, including a short clip of the Never Cried documentary, followed by firsthand reflections from Leola Hampton on her experiences during this pivotal period. Come gather with our campus community for conversation, learning, and reflection over a delicious Black History Month–themed lunch. All are welcome!
