Salem State is launching a university-wide initiative on AI, with an emphasis on considerations of these emerging technologies that are human-centered, equity forward, and career-aligned: for our students, our faculty, and our staff. This page will be updated regularly to document the emergent work of the initiative and to amplify AI-related initiatives and resources created for the campus community.
University AI Steering Council (U-AISC)
Salem State's University AI Steering Council (U-AISC) will convene campus stakeholders who are interested in assessing AI's impact on our campus and community. Our work builds on campus AI-related activities to date (like the 2024-25 SSU AI Advisory Group) with an eye toward aggregating these important efforts into a centralized institution-level initiative, one that offers a shared vision and a common framework that aligns with our strategic planning and institutional priorities.
The initiative’s strategic intent is to create a climate in which:
- campus leaders and faculty/staff emphasize trust, equity, transparency, and readiness;
- students are provided with opportunities to pursue visible, ethical, and practical pathways to AI proficiency in their current studies and their future endeavors; and
- institutional operations can gain capacity without sacrificing human judgment
