North Quad BOLD Connections

As the Decarbonization Project and Project BOLD have progressed, Salem State University has partnered with the state's Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) to explore opportunities to reimagine the North Quad while leveraging construction synergies and efficiencies across both projects.

The university envisions a more connected, welcoming and fully accessible North Quad through strategic regrading, the removal of the existing retaining wall and the creation of vibrant outdoor gathering spaces and pedestrian-friendly pathways. This vision supports the university's long-term goals for accessibility, sustainability, community building, and campus identity as outlined in its facilities master plan. The proposed design features interconnected walkways and expanded campus green space with additional trees and landscaping, enhanced gathering areas, and distinctive campus gateways that reinforce the North Quad as the heart of North Campus.

These BOLD Connections will create a more cohesive and engaging campus experience, strengthening links between academic, residential and recreational spaces while supporting environmental stewardship and the long-term vitality of the university community.
