Graduates often need to hit the ground running upon entering the business world, making it even more important to provide a hands-on, collaborative approach to an engaged learning process whereby students learn by doing and by reflecting on their experiences. Such real-world training can be seen through the Cabot Wealth Management Lab, which provides students with technology and tools—and access to global market data—that is used by investment professionals. The Student Managed Investment Fund provides opportunities for finance students to experience portfolio and investment management processes, creating returns on the fund and growing the assets to ultimately create Salem State scholarships for future students, further aiding experiential learning opportunities.

Many of these students often balance this rigorous coursework with one or more jobs unrelated to their career track, which can cause them to miss out on critical experiential opportunities that position them for longterm success.

The Meet the Moment™ campaign includes support for paid internships that will enable more students to take advantage of vital opportunities that align with their ambitions—without jeopardizing their financial stability.

For our students, having someone in their corner can make all the difference. The Meet the Moment™ campaign will allow us to expand peer-to-peer mentoring and grow the number of success coaches serving students with distinct needs, including veterans, first-generation students and students from underrepresented populations.

The Bertolon School of Business’ Center for Student Success, in collaboration with the career services office, will lead the BSB internship program, providing comprehensive financial and academic support for students to focus on their career aspirations while attending Salem State.

The program is designed to address the specific internship obstacles Salem State students face—such as leaving a current paying job and dealing with additional course and travel expenses—by providing stipends, course tuition, administrative support, and employer incentives.
