SSC Upward Bound Program

The Salem State College Upward Bound Program is designed to provide comprehensive program services to sixty-five eligible youth attending Lawrence Public Schools. All students must meet the following essential criteria:

• low-income and/or first-generation college bound
• high academic need for service (below 2.5 GPA and/or failing MCAS scores)
• between the ages of 13 and 19

Moreover, enrolled students must exhibit a positive attitude, a high level of motivation, and a desire to seek a postsecondary education. To all enrolled students, the SSC Upward Bound Program offers academic instruction, standardized test prep, tutoring, personal and academic counseling and enrichment activities during the school year. During the summer, students are required to participate in an intensive six-week academic and residential program conducted at the College.
