As a Board of Trustees, our goal is to make Salem State College the best learning experience that a student can obtain. Whether you are an incoming student, a parent of a prospective student, considering transferring to our College or an alumni member, Salem State College has something to offer each of you. A visit to our campus will heighten your understanding of what education is all about in the twenty-first century. Nestled in beautiful and historical Salem, the campus is constantly undergoing cultural as well as structural change.

If you are considering Salem State College as part of the next step in your education, you should know that we are committed to giving students excellence in their learning. We do this through a committed and exemplary faculty, many of whom are leaders in their chosen field of study. Our administration and staff are singularly focused on providing students with the best in academics, campus life and facilities. One only needs to look at our new Central Campus, with its new dormitory, School of Business and soon to be athletic complex to understand how exciting college life at Salem State can be.

If you are a parent of a prospective student, I can tell you that sending your young adult here to Salem State College will be one of the best things you can do to help him or her grow. We promise to support and nurture but we also will challenge him or her to grow in new and exciting ways. Our educational premise is to give students a solid and rich education and to excite them in such a way that they will search out learning throughout life. We also take seriously our commitment to give them the tools and foundation to pursue the career of their choice so that they can be a productive member of society.

Perhaps you are currently enrolled elsewhere and are thinking of making a move to Salem State College. Many of our most successful students fall into this category. Even though Salem State College is one of the largest public colleges in New England, it stills gives one a sense of a small-school feel. Each person matters here. Students who have transferred to Salem State, often from elite private colleges, tell us they are more academically challenged here, feel more connected and have more of an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our community.

If you are an alum, then you know how enriching your experience at Salem is. So many alumni are active with our College that that may be the true testament to the work done here. Our alumni return year after year to share what they have learned since graduating, to participate in our many cultural events, to contribute financially and to re-connect again with their Salem State family. It has been said that the strength of an academic institution is often found in its alumni. If that is true, Salem State College is very strong and united in its mission to stay close to all its former students and graduates.

We are very pleased to have so many of our neighbors involved with the College who have no history with us. Perhaps they saw one of our many award-winning theatrical productions or came to hear someone as part of our nationally-acclaimed Salem State College Series... either way, they came to believe in our mission. In turn, our volunteers have given their time, treasure and talent.
