TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education designed to help students successfully navigate college, graduate, and prepare for their future careers or graduate education.

At Salem State University, TRIO SSS serves students who demonstrate academic potential and are committed to earning their bachelor's degree. Our team provides individualized support, meaningful relationships, and opportunities that help students build confidence, develop leadership skills, and achieve their educational goals.

Our Mission

TRIO Student Support Services empowers students to achieve academic excellence, graduate from Salem State University, and become leaders in their communities by providing comprehensive academic, personal, financial, and career support.

Student Success Services

Every TRIO student is paired with a dedicated Student Success Counselor who serves as their primary advisor throughout their college experience.

Community & Belonging

TRIO is more than a program – it is a community. Students participate in workshops, leadership opportunities, celebrations, and campus events that foster meaningful connections and a strong sense of belonging.

Who Can Join TRIO?

Students may qualify if they meet federal eligibility requirements and are:

• First-generation college students (neither parent has earned a bachelor's degree)
• Income-eligible according to federal guidelines
• Students with documented disabilities

Students must also:

• Be enrolled at Salem State University
• Be pursuing their first bachelor's degree
• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
• Demonstrate academic need for program services

Meeting eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee acceptance, as enrollment is limited by federal funding.
