Tickets to the opening event of the 2008 Salem State College Series—"An Evening with (New England Patriots coach) Bill Belichick"—sold out in 24 hours, necessitating a move to the larger Rockett Arena. That, too, sold out within days as Patriot Nation descended on Salem State for the kick off of this year's Series.

Following an 11th-hour cancellation by John and Elizabeth Edwards, the Series engaged political analyst and Pulitzer Prize-winning author George F. Will to close out this year's program on September 23. To the delight of the large crowd in attendance, Will spoke candidly, and with a certain dry wit, about the subject most on listeners' minds: the 2008 presidential election. Weaving in frequent references to professional baseball—his other passion—George F. Will held his audience's attention for over an hour, patiently signing copies of his book for reception attendees after the event.
