Massachusetts State House Luncheon

Status message

Please note that this event has already occurred.

Join Salem State University’s Frederick E. Berry Institute of Politics for an SSU Reunion for Professionals in Politics & Public Service. This event is an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new connections.

As the Commonwealth’s Civic Engagement University, we recognize that a significant number of our alumni are working as elected officials, community leaders, or in other realms of politics and public service. The Frederick E. Berry Institute of Politics (Berry IOP) was established in 2019 because our community wanted to support student political engagement at such a unique time. As we enter our fifth year, we hope to build community and expand our connections with alumni who could serve as important resources and mentors to our current students.

This event will take place at the Massachusetts State House during the Berry IOP’s annual Alternative Spring Break Trip. Fifteen current students were selected through an application process to participate in this four-day adventure where they will engage with policymakers, lobbyists, and activists to better understand the Massachusetts legislative process and how the Commonwealth is tackling our most pressing social issues. Throughout the trip, students will participate in immersive simulations, policy talks, skills workshops, and networking opportunities (like this!).

Do not miss the chance to reconnect with old friends and establish new connections in the realm of politics and public service. We look forward to seeing you there!

About the Frederick E. Berry Institute of Politics

The Frederick E. Berry Institute of Politics (Berry IOP) was established in 2019 and aims to engage and inspire the Salem State community to be active in our democracy and to pursue careers in politics and public service. The Berry IOP leads Salem State’s voter engagement; hosts political debates and discussions; supports students with career interests in politics; and awards scholarships to students completing public service internships. The Berry IOP is a non-partisan institute that was established to celebrate the extraordinary career of the late Senator Fred Berry by prioritizing meaningful civic education. Inspired by Senator Berry’s legacy, we work to create entry points and break down barriers for all students who wish to pursue careers in politics and public service.
