The Cambodian Genocide: Revolution, Cold War, and the Legacies of Violence in Southeast Asia

Status message

Please note that this event has already occurred.

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies invites educators to participate in a one-day workshop on the Cambodian Genocide. The workshop will explore the history of the genocide and its place within the larger history of the region from the colonial period to today. Veteran teachers and content experts, Philip Comeau, Michael Neagle, and Dr. Phala Chea will facilitate the sessions and activities.

There will be a special presentation from Seng Ty, a survivor of the genocide and the author of The Years of Zero: Coming of Age Under the Khmer Rouge (complimentary copies of the book will be distributed). Separate sessions will integrate the genocide inside the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, explore primary sources, and identify best practices for teaching these complex and sensitive issues in the classroom.

School districts wishing to send teams of teachers as well as individual teachers should contact CHGS at chgs@salemstate.edu.
