Teacher Preparation

Salem State University School of Education offers multiple paths to becoming a licensed teacher in Massachusetts. Successfully completing an initial licensure program as part of the undergraduate 4+1 program, in a graduate licensure only program, or as an M.Ed. or MAT will result in receiving an endorsement for initial licensure.

However, many of the graduate program options enable participants to apply for a preliminary license directly with the state partway through the program and the master's degree programs allow completers to apply for professional licensure from the state after three years of teaching experience without any additional graduate work.
