The First Year Experience is excited to announce the Fall 2020 Student Success Series, In partnership with various support offices across campus, first-year and returning students will have an opportunity to participate in a series of workshops designed to help them achieve their academic goals at the university.
With two or three workshops scheduled each day throughout the semester (and nearly 150 workshops overall), students will have an opportunity to develop and improve academic and life skills such as time management, effective study habits, finding motivation, thriving in an online learning environment, mastering academic support technology, and more. "Workshops will be held throughout the day and in the evening so that students can choose what fits their schedule best. Particularly during the critical first six weeks of the semester, this flexibility allows first-year students a wide range of options to get support," said Franklin Chilaka, assistant director for the first year experience. Workshops are being presented by full-time staff, graduate success coaches, and upper-class first-year mentors at the university. While geared towards new students, all students will have an opportunity to participate in the workshops.
All students can access the workshop schedule, Zoom links, and additional support resources via Canvas beginning Tuesday, September 1.
"The Student Success Series is a great opportunity for students to receive support and encouragement on their journey towards academic success. This is what the Salem State University experience is all about," said Mathew Chetnik, director of the first year experience.
If you have a workshop topic you would like to present and include in the schedule, please email the first year experience office.
