Salem State's Peer Tutoring Program Launches New Online Tutoring Service

Salem State's Center for Academic Excellence Peer Tutoring program is excited to announce the launch of online tutoring!

In addition to traditional on-campus in-person tutoring, some Salem State peer tutors will also be available for online tutoring, through GoBoard from Tutor Matching Services at no additional cost.

During a tutoring session, peer tutors can help you break down challenging material into smaller parts and provide study tips to help you succeed in your classes.

Using a video and audio-enabled device (desktop, laptop, or iPad) students can meet with a tutor and use a shared work board that has tools to help with any subject. Upon completion of each online tutoring session, students receive a PDF of that session so they can see any diagrams or notes that they created on the shared work board. If you meet online with the same tutor in subsequent online tutoring sessions, you can return to your board to see previous work and build on from there.

Online tutoring is not a replacement for in-person tutoring, and tutors who offer online sessions will also offer in-person sessions. The goal of the new online program is to make tutoring available to those who have challenges getting to or remaining on campus and to mimic in-person tutoring as much as possible. As a reminder, tutors are not available for all courses but try to cover as many as possible.

Online and in-person tutoring sessions can be scheduled via TutorTrac. Learn more about peer tutoring, scheduling and preparing for your session, and what to expect during a tutoring session.
