Bertolon Students Attend Thrive Kick-Off Luncheon

Eight students in the Salem State Bertolon School of Business joined Dean Luther and Student Success Director Don White at the North Shore Chamber of Commerce’s kick-off luncheon for Thrive, an initiative with the objective of empowering women on the North Shore to succeed professionally and personally.

The guest speaker was Virginia Buckingham, author of “On My Watch,” which recounts the minute-by-minute events on September 11, 2001, when Buckingham was head of MassPort. Buckingham talked about how she was made into a scapegoat following the terrorist attacks.

“Listen to your own voice. Be your own hero. And go out of your way to be kind and compassionate;” that was her powerful message as she shared her story in an emotionally poignant appearance before a crowd of nearly 200.
