April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is sexual assault awareness month. Twenty-three percent of women, 5% of men, and 21% of transgender, genderqueer, or gender nonconforming students experience sexual violence while they are in college, according to RAINN (the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network). Join PEAR this month to learn about consent, healthy sexual practices and communication, and ways to create a safer culture on our campus.

If you would like to facilitate a workshop on topics like consent or bystander intervention, or use one of our toolkits, you can email us at Follow along on our Instagram (@salemstatewellness) for more information about SAAM activities. Find additional resources on sexual assault.

If you, or someone you know has been affected by sexual assault, you can contact the PEAR Confidential Advocacy Line to seek support. The line is active from 8 am-8 pm, seven-days-a-week when the university is open. You can call or text the number at 978.594.7089 to speak to an advocate. PEAR is also offering virtual drop-in office hours through Doxy with no appointment needed. Drop-in hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am-noon, and Tuesday/Thursday from 1-4 pm. In-person scheduling is available upon request.
