Know Your Rights

Whether you have or have not experienced sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence or stalking, know these important rights when it comes to sex and relationships:

You have the right to decide when, where and with whom to engage in any sexual activity. You have the right to agree to sexual activity (called consent), or to refuse. No one has the right to pressure or force you to into something you are not 100% comfortable with.

You have the right to be in a relationship that is free from control, threats and violence. No one has the right to demand you do what they say, make you fearful, or hit you.

You have the right to get help from the Salem State community and others if this has happened to you or if you are in an ongoing situation where this is happening.

More information is available in Salem State University’s Student Code of Conduct.

Please review Salem State University’s sexual and relationship abuse brochure.
