The Gassett Fitness Center employs students in a variety of positions each semester. Becoming a member of our team allows students to gain valuable experience working within their area of interest. Fitness center positions offer flexible scheduling along with the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fun work environment. Assist with administrative functions of an office. Previous relevant work experience required. Assist with special projects, keep accurate records, prepare budget records, plan departmental activities, prepare publication materials including newsletters and assist with department events. Complete departmental filing, data entry and membership management.

Responsible for providing a high level of customer service while supervising all fitness areas, enforcing policies and procedures, ensuring a clean and safe environment for patrons, and providing member satisfaction during all shifts. Provide information concerning safety and usage of the facility and equipment, as well as all programs and services, and lead facility tours and equipment orientations.

Serve as the main point of contact for all Gassett Fitness Center patrons. Responsible for providing superior customer service by greeting all members and determining membership eligibility for all individuals entering the Gassett Fitness Center. Provide patrons with information regarding programs and services, assist with program registration and complete departmental filing and data entry.  Also responsible for equipment check-out.

Individuals must have a thorough knowledge of all areas of Campus Life and Recreation and Salem State University in order to provide information to students, faculty, staff and guests who wish to use the Gassett Fitness Center. Prior customer service experience a plus.

Individual must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. In-house training will be provided for those not currently certified.

Supervises all Gassett Fitness Center facility spaces and oversees matters related to the operation of all activity areas in the O'Keefe Complex. Must have a thorough knowledge of all areas of Campus Life and Recreation programming including fitness/wellness, intramurals, club sports, aquatics and events. Responsible for opening and closing of facilities for recreational usage and special events, responding to accidents, injuries and emergencies, completing appropriate paperwork, and enforcing departmental and university policies to all facility users. Will be responsible for the processing of financial transactions. Must possess strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills and be able to work a flexible schedule. Position requires early morning, late evening and weekend hours.

Individual will serve as the first responder in emergency situations and must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. In-house training will be provided for those not currently certified.

Prior leadership experience required. Prior experience supervising peers a plus.

Responsible for promoting and assisting in the design, coordination, management and implementation of programs and events offered by the Department of Campus Life and Recreation. Individual will assist in oversight of a wide variety of co-curricular engagement programming. Individuals must be able to engage an audience and enthusiastically explain programs and events of the department. Individual will assist in promotion, recruitment and assessment of departmental activities.

Prior leadership experience in programming and events preferred.

Responsible for operating and tracking score and time during intramural men's, women's, co-rec, individual and dual team sports. Individual will assist in game day setup and operation. Individual must demonstrate strong communication, teamwork and appropriate conduct.

Training will be provided for all sports that an individual is hired to keep time and score for.

Individual must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. In-house training will be provided for those not currently certified.

Dedicated to providing high quality supervision and administration for men's, women's, co-rec, individual, dual and team sports. Individual will play a critical role in activity and game day supervision and administration. Individuals must demonstrate strong leadership and decision making skills as well as conflict resolution, communication, teamwork and appropriate conduct.

This position is physically active and sport and/or officiating experience is preferred although not required. Training will be provided for all sports that an individual is hired to officiate.

Individual must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid. In-house training will be provided for those not currently certified.

Assists in the supervision and administration of the intramural sports program. Oversees matters related to the operation of all intramural activities. Must have a thorough knowledge of all intramural sports offered by the Department of Campus Life and Recreation as well as the entire intramural sports program and handbook.

Individual will oversee all intramural activities and events sponsored by the department, respond to accidents, injuries and emergencies, complete appropriate paperwork and enforce departmental and university policies to all participants. Must possess strong leadership, communication and conflict resolution skills and be able to work a flexible schedule. Position requires late evening and weekend hours.

Responsible for attending Campus Life and Recreation programs and events to capture images and/or video. Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to attend special events and competitions during evenings and weekends. Must have own equipment and be proficient in Photoshop or other editing software. Individual must have good time management with the ability to edit and submit photos to Campus Life and Recreation professional staff in a timely manner. Work will be used for website, flyers/advertisements, media and print advertisements.

Work with Gassett Fitness Center members of various age, gender and ability levels. Instructors must hold a nationally accredited group exercise certification and lead a variety of classes including, but not limited to, Total Body Conditioning, Bootcamp, Core, Step and other formats. Specialty certifications are required for individuals interested in leading classes such as Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, etc... In this group setting, instructors are required to motivate and educate class participants on proper exercise technique. Instructors design and implement safe and effective group classes, provide a motivating and enjoyable environment, and assist participants with equipment set-up and use. Classes must be safe and effective for all fitness levels with intensity modifications provided as necessary. All instructors must implement proper cuing and injury prevention practices.

A nationally accredited Group Fitness and/or specialty certification is required. All instructors must also hold and maintain current CPR/AED Certifications.

Will assist the Gassett Fitness Center in the management, design and implementation of fitness and wellness programs, workshops and events. Candidate will lead workshops and other programs as assigned including, but not limited to, training programs ("Couch to 5k, Triathlon), special events, promotions, outreach and incentive programs.

Prior experience in a fitness center and experience leading workshops and programs. Sport & Movement Science students are strongly encouraged to apply.
