Salem State University is committed to ensuring our campus is inclusive and affirming of all gender and sexual identities. We offer a wide array of programs, advocacy, and advising to support the LGBTQIA+ and women’s communities on campus.
LGBTQIA+ Coordinator
The LGBTQIA+ Coordinator manages campus-wide educational and social programming, advocacy, and comprehensive support services for LGBTQIA+ students at Salem State University. They serve as a resource, advocate, and advisor to LGBTQIA+ students and also provide programs and training regarding LGBTQIA+ topics, social justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism to the broader campus community.

Salem State University Police Department LGBTQIA+ Liaison
Officer Glenn Young (he/him/his) serves as the LGBTQIA+ Liaison for the Salem State University Police Department. In their role, Officer Young is an additional community resource for LGBTQIA+ students and coordinates departmental programs to support the LGBTQIA+ community on campus.

- Gender-Inclusive Housing: Residence life at Salem State is committed to providing an inclusive, comfortable environment for all students. Gender-inclusive housing allows students to select or be assigned suite-mates regardless of gender or sex. All of our first-year housing options have gender-inclusive restrooms with private showers on each floor. This living option is also available to upper-class students. Students who wish to live in gender-inclusive housing should indicate their interest in their housing application or speak with a member of the residence life staff. - Chosen Name: In order to create a consistent name experience for all community members across campus, students at Salem State University may select to use a chosen name different from their legal name to identify themselves. The Chosen Name Policy applies to internal university documents such as class rosters, ClipperCard, and Canvas. Students are able to select and change their chosen name in Navigator. For assistance in utilizing this policy, please contact Sam Lim, LGBTQIA+ Coordinator at slim@salemstate.edu.
