Mehnaz Afridi, PhD, is director of The Holocaust, Genocide, and Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan College. During this Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies "Research Conversations" webinar, she will discuss her forthcoming work on "The Wounded Muslim: Memory and Trauma."
The last few decades have seen countless mass murders and genocide. Professor Afridi will shine a light on the disproportionate share of atrocities committed against Muslims around the world, including the targeting of the Uyghurs in China, the mass murder and displacement of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, and the lockdown of Kashmiri Muslims by India. Drawing on insights and categories developed by students of the Holocaust and other genocides, she will examine witnessing, memory, and individual and collective trauma among Muslim victims.
