Trauma-Informed Care

In this workshop, we will explore the complex task of treating trauma-related disorders. The presenter will provide research related to the myriad behavioral manifestations of posttraumatic stress responses, as well as brain changes that occur following a traumatic event. The workshop will include information regarding various treatment approaches to trauma work, including individual therapy, group therapy, and art therapy. Participants will learn practical applications and limitations of different treatment approaches. Additionally, the workshop will explore signs of vicarious trauma as well as simple steps to take to prevent burnout.

  1. To identify posttraumatic stress responses and criteria for trauma-related diagnoses
  2. To identify and understand brain changes after trauma
  3. To identify practical applications of group therapy to the treatment of trauma-related symptoms and disorders
