Adapted from Le Misanthrope by Molière

Adapted from Molière’s The Misanthrope, David Ives’s The School for Lies tells the comic tale of Frank, who shares with Molière’s Alceste a venomous hatred of the hypocrisy that surrounds him. This production is not set in the salons of Paris, but rather in France Classical High School, circa 1980s with all the characters we remember from our yearbook – The Cheerleader, The “It” Girl, The Jock, The Thespian, The Sidekick and more.

This wild farce of furious tempo and stunning verbal display, all in very contemporary couplets, is two plays in one: an authentic representation of Molière’s strikingly modern 17th-century worldview and a hilarious satire of the world we live in right now. Another incomparable romp from the brilliant author of All in the Timing.
