Microaggressions are forms of subtle, everyday discrimination that can negatively impact people. Despite controversy about the construct, emerging evidence supports the idea that microaggressions may be a form of chronic stress that can have negative impacts on one’s physical health.
This presentation will focus on describing and defining microaggressions, the cognitive and physiological pathways through which microaggressions may impact health status, and how they may contribute to existing racial health disparities in the US.
Susan Torres-Harding, PhD, is a clinical psychologist who studies microaggressions and their impact on psychological and physical health.
