First year seminars are required 3-credit, academic courses that students take within the General Education program at Salem State University. Each seminar is topic-based - seminars are NOT related to a student's major. The seminar is required for all incoming first-year students. New transfer students who have taken fewer than 15 credits at a previous institution are also required to take first year seminar.
First-year students entering for fall 2022 should select their first year seminar in Navigator (after selecting their orientation session) between March 21 and May 31 after reading all of the seminar options.
In addition to reviewing the seminar descriptions and FAQs about the Salem State University first year seminar program, first-year (freshmen) are encouraged to attend an information session prior to selecting their first year seminar for the fall semester. Each session is approximately 30-45 minutes. Students can register for a session by following the specific day/time link posted on the university website.
