An Evening of North Indian Classical Music

Featuring Suhail Yusuf Khan and Amit Kavthekar

Join us for a live concert of classical music from North India, featuring Suhail Yusuf Khan on sarangi and Amit Kavthekar on tabla. Khan is a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. He bases his research on his personal experience as an eighth-generation musician belonging to a lineage of Hindustani musicians, including his legendary grandfather, Ustad Sabri Khan. Kavthekar, a versatile tabla player based in the Boston area, studied under the illustrious tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha and his son, Ustad Zakir Hussain.

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Creative and Performing Arts, the Music and Dance Department, and the Commonwealth Honors Program

Admission is free with a suggested $10 donation to go towards scholarships for Salem State University music students. 

Advance registration is recommended as seating is limited.

Attendees are expected to follow the Salem State University COVID-19 Safety Protocols.
