Earth Days Writing and Visual Art Student Contest

CASH AWARDS!

The Salem State University Earth Days Planning Committee announces an opportunity for Salem State students to share their thoughts, worries, and hopes about climate change. Co-sponsored by Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Honors Society).

UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO SUBMIT

  • A written reflection of under 500 words addressing one of the prompts below. Submit your piece. 

    OR
     
  • A digital or two-dimensional visual piece reflecting one of the prompts below. Each submission must be accompanied by a one-paragraph statement identifying the prompt being addressed and explaining the connection between the artwork and the prompt. Submit a digital piece. 
  • Submissions of hand-rendered drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, textiles, or collage are welcome and must be no larger than 18” x 24”. Visual art should be dropped off at the Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Meier 116. Please include your name on the back of your work and your statement. 

PROMPTS - All submissions must address one of these prompts.

  1. How does your understanding of climate change affect your actions and activism?
  2. How does climate change affect how you think about your own future?
  3. What gives you cause for hope about climate change?

SUBMISSION DEADLINE - Friday, March 31. One entry per student.

PRIZES - Winners will be announced during Earth Week, April 10-14. Several cash prizes will be awarded with the top prize winners earning $300 and the second prize winners receiving $150.
