The Center for Creative and Performing Arts (CCPA) will host its annual Creativity Awards on Tuesday, May 9 at 7 pm in the Sophia Gordon Center.
This year’s celebration will recognize eight undergraduate students for their achievements in the creative and performing arts. Stan Strickland, musician and Co-Executive Director of Express Yourself will receive the Lifetime Achievement in the Arts Award, presented annually at this event.
Singer, saxophonist, flutist, actor, Stan Strickland has performed extensively throughout the United States, Europe, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Strickland serves as Co-Executive Director of Express Yourself (Exyo), a multi-cultural arts organization that serves mentally ill youth through the Department of Mental Health. After a year-long process working with youth, he collaborates with multi-disciplinary Exyo artists and over 350 youth creating a fee free celebratory performance now in its twenty-ninth year this May at the Wang Theatre- Boch Center. Additionally, he is an associate professor of voice at Berklee College of Music and a long-time collaborator with US poet laureate Robert Pinsky.
The 2023 student Creativity Award recipients represent five creative disciplines and are selected their department faculty for their achievements and artistry.
