Bernstein, Prokofiev and Shakespeare: Tales of Romeo and Juliet

University Chamber Orchestra Concert

The tale of Romeo and Juliet has been adapted by artists of all kinds since Shakespeare brought the star-crossed lovers to life. This concert shares two musical interpretations of the story: selections from Prokofiev’s ballet of the same name and selections from Bernstein’s West Side Story. The concert is also nod to the centennial of Bernstein’s birth. Music professor Mary-Jo Grenfell conducts.

The concert includes a pre-show conversation about Bernstein's West Side Story and this American original's wide-ranging creative output with professors Mary-Jo Grenfell (music) and  Betsy Miller (dance) and Salem State music and theatre alum Matthew Evangelista '09.

Admission is free to student ensemble concerts. Donations at the door are welcome to support scholarships for music majors.
