Senior Annie Hudak presents her "Honors in Art Exhibition" in the Winfisky Gallery, April 22–May 8.
"Self harm is something a lot of people including myself have dealt with. One of the many emotions that follows this topic is shame. There are many who do not wish to deal with it or speak of it. The purpose of this work is to prompt viewers to view a subject that they shy away from. I used brightly colored pastels in a large format so that these arms could not be missed. I wanted viewers to see them, but not necessarily as something horrific. For while self harm can be terrifying, those who suffer from it are not. These works were also about healing. Through creating these forms, I transformed my own hurt into something else. It has allowed me to create something beautiful. Lastly, I have rediscovered a medium that I enjoy." —Annie Hudak
Annie will present an artist talk on April 24 at 12:30 pm, followed by an artist reception from 2–4 pm.
The Winfisky Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 10 am–4 pm.
