Supporting a 21st-Century Vision for Student Success
A meaningful college experience encompasses more than classroom learning. Our students face and overcome a range of challenges—from working multiple jobs and learning in a second language to caring for loved ones and raising families. Their tenacity is inspiring, but it isn’t always enough. We strive to strengthen the systems that help students get to graduation, and prepare them to develop as productive, engaged members of our communities and workforce.
Their college experience should incorporate extra-curricular programs that cultivate their creativity and leadership skills as well as their intellect, such as student organizations and recreation. Salem State engages our students in transformational learning experiences that equip them with the tools needed to be the change they wish to see in the world. Through intentional programming, we develop and inspire inclusive leadership on campus and in the world.
Salem State offers specialized resources for students who need help—both academically and financially—within the Student Navigation Center and the Center for Academic Excellence.
The Student Navigation Center is there to help students with everything from student billing to registration, giving students support throughout their journey at Salem State. Whether students have a question about financial aid, student accounts, or their academic record, the Student Navigation Center can help.
The Center for Academic Excellence helps students achieve academic success by providing advising, tutoring, mentoring, supplemental instruction, reading and test-taking strategies and collaborating with other departments to ensure that students have the appropriate academic supports to be successful at Salem State.
Student Navigation Center provides a range of services from financial aid to student billing to registration to counseling on family and life issues. Student Navigation Center staff report that 90 percent of the information requested by students is related to financial matters; the Center frequently counsels students who are forced to choose between paying tuition and paying for food and housing.
The Center for Academic Excellence offers advising, tutoring, mentoring, supplemental instruction and reading and test-taking strategies to ensure student success.
