Dr. Marilyn E. Flaherty Award

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    Established by the Salem State University Alumni Association, the Dr. Marilyn E. Flaherty distinguished alumnus/a award recognizes an individual who upon graduation from Salem State University, has distinguished themselves through their outstanding professional accomplishments.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Each recipient must have attained notable achievement or made a lasting contribution in his or her professional endeavors.
    • Each recipient must have earned a degree from Salem State University.
    • It is preferred that recipient attend the awards ceremony to accept his or her award.
    • The recipients are eligible to receive a specific award once, but are eligible to receive a different award in the future.
    • The awards committee is not obligated to select a recipient from each category if applicants do not adequately meet the requirements.
    • No member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors may self-nominate for the award.

    Nomination Requirements

    • A separate nomination form must be completed for each nominee.
    • As part of the nomination form, nominators must submit a 500 word or more statement establishing the candidate's qualifications with clear and concise detail as to why he/she should be selected for the award.
    • The awards committee, comprised of members of the Salem State University Alumni Board, reserves the right to conduct independent research on a nominee. The committee will only consider information when it is part of a submitted nomination. 
    • The awards committee will also not consider nominations that consist solely of a nominee's resume. 
    • Incomplete nomination packets will NOT be considered.
    • Nomination due date is April 1, 2017.

Elizabeth Williams Wade Award

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    Established in 1980, the Elizabeth Williams Wade Award is presented to an alumnus/a who has made outstanding contributions to Salem State University. The award was established and is awarded by members of the Salem State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. 

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Each recipient must have attained notable achievement or made a lasting contribution to Salem State University through their philanthropic and voluntary endeavors.
    • Each recipient must have earned a degree from Salem State University.
    • It is preferred that recipient attend the awards ceremony to accept his or her award.
    • The recipients are eligible to receive a specific award once, but are eligible to receive a different award in the future.
    • The awards committee is not obligated to select a recipient from each category if applicants do not adequately meet the requirements.

Alumni Rising Star Award

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    Established in 2013 by the Salem State University Alumni Association, the Rising Star Award recognizes alumni who have received their degree within the last 15 years and who are already making significant contributions to greater society through professional and philanthropic work.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Each recipient must have attained notable achievement or made a lasting contribution in his or her professional, philanthropic, or voluntary endeavors.
    • Each recipient must have graduated within the last 15 years.
    • Each recipient must have earned a degree from Salem State University.
    • It is preferred that recipient attend the awards ceremony to accept his or her reward.
    • The recipients are eligible to receive a specific award once, but are eligible to receive a different award in the future. 
    • The awards committee is not obligated to select a recipient from each category if applicants do not adequately meet the requirements.
    • No member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors may self-nominate for the award.

Outstanding Social Worker Award

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    The Friends of the School of Social Work's Outstanding Social Worker Alumni Award honors School of Social Work alumni who have shown dedication to the field of social work by:

    • making outstanding contributions to the social work profession
    • performing outstanding service in their chosen area
    • nurturing professional development of social workers

     

    Outstanding Social Work Award Nomination Form

    The Friends of the School of Social Work's Outstanding Social Worker Alumni Award honors their alumni who have shown dedication to the field of social work by:

    1. making outstanding contributions to the social work profession
    2. performing outstanding service in their chosen area
    3. nurturing professional development of social workers

    Please provide as much biographical information as possible to help the screening committee with their decision. Nominate a candidate!

Student Grants

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    The Salem State University Alumni Association seeks to assist student members of the university community in attaining their goals. Proposals are funded at the discretion of the Alumni Association Board of Directors Scholarship/Student Grants Committee based upon the project’s ability to:

    • Increase public awareness and positive perception of Salem State students, alumni, programs and/or the university.
    • Enhance student experiences by offering the opportunity to grow as individuals.
    • Serve the communities of the North Shore while we create an ever more globally aware and culturally diverse campus environment.

    Additional criteria

    • Groups must be a registered student organization with a faculty or staff advisor within the university. 
    • The registered student organization may not apply for more than one grant. 
    • All applications must be completed and submitted by October 5.
    • Funding requests are limited to $1,000.

Salem State Alumni Association Scholarships

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    The Salem State University Alumni Association scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student who has an immediate family member(s) that is an alumna/us of Salem State University. Immediate family members include mother, father, siblings, child or grandparent.

    These scholarships are renewable annually for a maximum of four years. Awards and their renewal are dependent upon full-time status, satisfactory academic performance and fulfillment of the criteria upon which the student was initially selected.

    To receive consideration for these scholarships, all students, whether previous recipients or not, must reapply each year.

    Application deadline is March 1 and can be completed and submitted online at salemstate.academicworks.com

Athletic Hall of Fame Award

  • Eligibility and Criteria

    The Athletic Hall of Fame honors and perpetuates the memory of athletes, friends and coaches, who performed and contributed at the highest level of intercollegiate athletic competition while at Salem State University. Selection is based primarily on athletic accomplishments, integrity, sportsmanship and character. Individuals other than athletes may be named to the Hall of Fame in recognition of their services and dedication to the Salem State University athletic program. Consideration will be given to the individual’s overall contribution to the university and the team(s) on which he or she played. Any student-former athlete who has competed at the collegiate level will be eligible five (5) years after their official graduation date from Salem State University.

Northeast Regional Educators Hall of Fame

Awards Categories

  • About the Program

    Established in 2013, the mission of the Salem State University Northeast Regional Educators Hall of Fame is to honor and recognize exemplary leaders, past and present, in the field of education for their dedication, contributions and service to their profession. This program serves as a record and inspiration for the next generation of educators. 

    The Salem State University Northeast Regional Educators Hall of Fame is administered through the Salem State School of Education and Friends of Education Alumni Board. The selection of Hall of Fame honorees from nominees is the responsibility of the Hall of Fame committee composed of five faculty and staff individuals from the School of Education and five individuals from the Friends of Education Alumni Board.

    Salem State University hosts an annual ceremony recognizing the chosen inductees and nominees. A plaque of recognition is displayed in Alumni House on Upper South Campus.

    All recipients are required to be in attendance at the Hall of Fame induction celebration. 

  • Eligibility, Criteria and Selection Process

    Each candidate for an award must:

    • Be engaged in and dedicated to the field of education
    • Demonstrate the best practices within nominee's field
    • Demonstrate consistent, inspirational service within educational communities
    • Demonstrate leadership and/or civic engagement
    • Inspire collaboration and model professionalism
    • Effectively communicate with all stakeholders

    members. Potential recipients may go through a face-to-face interview process. Inductees will then be selected and notified.

  • Dr. Edna Mauriello '44 Lifetime Achievement Award

    Criteria: 20+ years in the field of education; promotion of mission through work in education in any capacity. Demonstrated leadership and made significant contributions to their respective school district, college/university or organization.

  • Rising Star Award

    Criteria: 3-10 years as an educator; promotion of mission through work in education in any capacity. Demonstrated early evidence of significant contributions to respective school district, college/university or organization.

  • Salem State Alumni Award

    Criteria: Graduate of Salem State University (undergraduate or graduate degree); Exemplar of her/his alma mater who has demonstrated the best practices of Salem State University.

  • Northeast Regional Educators Hall of Fame

    Criteria: Promotion of mission through work in education in any capacity within the Northeast Region. Demonstrated leadership and made significant contributions to their respective school district, college/university or organization.
