Student Meal Plans

What is a Meal Plan?

A meal plan is a plan given to both resident and commuter students so they are able to eat and interact on campus. The meal plan has a ClipperCash account which students can use for activities and services on and off campus without having to carry cash. The meal plan also has a dining dollar account for food on campus. Our goal is to integrate both commuting and resident students so both groups are able to experience a full college life. Students can enjoy a meal while working on a project or just grab a snack between classes.

Meal Plan Information

What if I do not want the plan and was given it anyway?

All resident students are required to have a meal plan, it is a part of the housing contract. If you have a dietary restriction and are unable to eat on campus, please contact the ClipperCard Office and we will work together with Chartwells Food Services to find the best solution to fit your needs. Commuter students who wish to waive their plan please see information below.

What if I want to upgrade my meal plan?

Visit Ask the Viking to learn how to upgrade your meal plan.

All commuters who are full-time day students are automatically given the commuter meal plan every semester.

This plan is mandatory for all first-year students. If you are an upperclassman or transfer student with 24 or more credits, the plan is voluntary and you will have the option to waive off the commuter meal plan each semester. To do so, you will need to log on to your Navigator account; under the "campus finance" section choose "waive commuter meal plan", then check the box to opt out of the plan. You need to opt out of the commuter plan prior to the designated deadline at the start of each semester. Waiving your plan in the fall does not automatically waive the plan for the spring. If you have any difficulties while waiving your plan please contact the ClipperCard Office.

What is ClipperCash?

ClipperCash can be used on campus as well as off campus at many locations around Salem. ClipperCash does not expire and will roll forward until the student leaves the university.

What are Dining Dollars?

Dining Dollars can be used at any of our Chartwells dining locations on campus including the North Campus food court, Out Takes, and Starbucks. Dining Dollars will expire at the end of the Spring semester each year.

What is the deadline to change my plan?

The deadline to change your meal plan for the Fall 2018 Semester is Friday, September 28, at 3 pm. The deadline for the Spring 2019 semester is Friday, February 22, at 3 pm. Please contact the ClipperCard Office if you have any difficulties changing your plan.
