processes and landforms. Each student chooses a field area on the North

process measurements, and analyzing data. Students learn basic mapping
and surveying, beach profiling methods, and relevant computer skills.
Writing is also emphasized. The principal product of the course is final
paper covering the evolution and dynamics of a beach. Topics covered
during lecture include basic coastal geomorphology, processes affecting
clastic shorelines, coastal hazards, and the effects of human development
and intervention along the coast. Three lecture hours and three hours
of field work/research per week. Offered alternate years during the
fall semester only.
