ResNet: Troubleshooting

Once the computer is certified, it will take only one business day to turn on the Internet access. If there is a problem, please try the following these steps.

Check Your Connection

• Open your web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer)
• If a webpage does not load, type www.salemstate.edu into the Location/Address bar
• Check for "Document: Done" in the Status Bar at the bottom of the window.
• If you see "Document: Done", you have succesfully connected to the Internet! If not, choose an option below.

The Page Did Not Load (I Don't See "Document: Done")

1. Make sure the light where the Internet cable plugs into the back of your computer is lit up and flashing.
2. Make sure the other end of the Internet cable is plugged into the wall in the correct jack (it is written on your receipt).
3. Try the cable in the other even numbered jack in the room.
4. Make sure the cable is pushed in completely into the computer and in the wall.

Unable to Locate the Server / Page Cannot be Displayed

• Check your spelling
• Confirm the URL (web address)
• Follow the steps above (The Page Did Not Load)
• Try another website, such as www.boston.com

What the Heck is a DHCP Error?
A DHCP error indicates that you are having trouble connecting to our network. If you get an error message like this please write down your adapter address when it is displayed on the screen. If you miss the information, or it is not displayed, follow these steps;

• Click on Start
• Select run
• Type cmd
• Click OK
• Type ipconfig

This will give you the address adapter information that Information Technology requires.

Do NOT change anything in this screen! Simply write down the Adapter Address, and any other information shown, and click OK.
