| Update McAfee Virus Definitions Files (DATs) |
|
Even if you have the latest release of McAfee running on your computer, you need to make sure that you have the latest virus definitions loaded as well. New viruses are developed almost every day, the "DAT" files update the McAfee virus engine so it can recognize these new viruses and then know how to deal with them.
|
| Step One: Download the DAT files |
-
Download 5231xdat.exe [33.50MB download]
- Instruct your computer to save the virus profile to your computer. The default or automatic location where your computer will want to save the file will most likely be your Netscape directory. That will make it difficult to find when you go to do the next step. Navigate to your Desktop in the "Save As" box, or, to pick a directory you are comfortable with and...
- Save the file by clicking "OK" The file is now ON YOUR COMPUTER. There is no need to return to this page again to download these files a second time. Go to your My Computer icon on your desktop to execute step number two.
|
| Step Two: Open and Install the Profiles |
- Once the file is saved, open the folder where you stored it, and Double Click the file that you just downloaded.
- Follow the step by step instructions that the Install Shield will take you through. Click "YES" when it asks you if you want to install the program, and click "Next" for each of the steps it takes you through until your final option is "FINISH."
- Congratulations. You have installed the most up-to-date anti-virus protection.
- You must restart your computer for these profiles to be effective. Please do so.
