Install / Upgrade McAfee

In order to protect your computer from the latest viruses, it is important that you are running the most current version of McAfee. If you are not sure which version you are currently running, please read the McAfee Information page before proceeding.

The instructions below are for installing the latest version of McAfee as both a new install and an upgrade. If you are sure that you are running a version of McAfee 4.x or later, you can upgrade the virus engine and your DAT files all at once by downloading the SuperDAT! Otherwise, begin with "Step One".

• Download the SuperDAT [35.03MB download] Upgrade for Version 4.x or later users only!

Step One: Download McAfee

• Download VirusScan Enterprise 8.5 [ZIP 20.1MB]
• Instruct your computer to save the virus profile to your computer. The default or automatic location where your computer will want to save the file will most likely be your Netscape directory. That will make it difficult to find when you go to do the next step. Navigate to your Desktop in the "Save As" box, and pick a directory you are comfortable with (remember where you save it!)
• Save the file by clicking "OK" The file is now ON YOUR COMPUTER. There is no need to return to this page again to download these files a second time. Go to your My Computer icon on your desktop to execute step number two.

Step Two: Install the Program

Please note: You must have an Unzip program in order to install McAfee. If you do not, there are numerous freeware programs available online, including StuffIt Expander from Aladdin Systems. You will need to install an Unzip utility before proceeding.

• Once the file is saved, open the folder where you saved it, and Double Click the .zip file that you just downloaded.
• Follow the step by step instructions that the Install Shield will take you through. Click "YES" when it asks you if you want to install the program, and click "NEXT" for each of the steps it takes you through until your final option is "FINISH."
• Congratulations. You have just upgraded from the old version of McAfee to the new one, giving yourself a better chance of fighting off those viruses.
• You must restart your computer for the upgrade to be recognized by your system. Please do so now, and then move on to the next step - updating your current virus profiles.
