Blackboard - Student Info

*Notice: SSC's new course management system is WebCT. WebCT will be fully operational for Fall 2006.

System Requirements

  • Computer with an Internet connection
  • Web browser (Netscape 4.7x or Internet Explorer 5.x preferred)

America On-line (AOL) browsers have many problems with Blackboard. AOL users are encouraged to use Netscape or Internet Explorer to browse the web using their AOL accounts. (Contact AOL technical support to learn how to do this.) Macintosh users may need to upgrade to 5.x browsers to use the chat feature (virtual classroom) of Blackboard. WebTV users have also reported difficulties using Blackboard.

Creating a Blackboard Account

To enroll in a Blackboard course you must first create an account. Each student needs only one account, so if you are already enrolled in another course, you do not need to create a second account.

You must have a valid Salem State College email address to obtain a Blackboard account. For an online application, visit; http://www.salemstate.edu/email.

Enrolling in a Course

Within the first two weeks of your class you can enroll yourself by following the instructions below. After that, you will need to ask the instructor to enroll you.

  1. Login to Blackboard at http://blackboard.salemstate.edu/
  2. Click on "Courses" tab
  3. Click on "Browse Course Catalog"
  4. Click on the Orange "Go" Button
  5. Find the course
  6. Click on the "Enroll" button on the right hand side
  7. Click on the "Submit" button
