The SSC Upward Bound Program accepts applications from target students throughout the year. Potential students must complete an Eligibility Profile and UB Program staff will contact all students who meet the criteria. If you qualify, you'll then need to submit the application.
Typically the program recruits students in Grade 9 during the fall term, and graduated Grade 9 students during the spring term. Students in Grades 11 and 12 are not eligible.
Eligibility Criteria
All students served must be between the ages of 13 and 19, enrolled in the Lawrence Public Schools at the time of acceptance into the program, and in need of academic services as evidenced by failing MCAS scores and/or a below 2.5 GPA.

Application Checklist
Students who meet the eligibility criteria will need to submit the following:
- Upward Bound application [PDF 139KB]
- Teacher Letter of Recommendation (in the UB application)
- Guidance Counselor Letter of Recommendation (in the UB application)
- Copy of your most current grade report
- Copy of your most recent MCAS scores
- Copy of your parents' statement of income (tax return form 1040 or 1040EZ or a letter from AFDC)
- Copy of health insurance and social security card
- Copy of most recent immunization report
You can turn the completed application into your school guidance counselor or return it to the Upward Bound Office in Lawrence.
