Child and Family Services Concentration
The Child and Family Services Concentration curriculum strengthens and deepens students' understanding of child and family well being in the context of contemporary society. The Child and Family Services curriculum is conceptualized and designed to provide students with the following:
- an understanding of the concepts and theories pertinent to child and family behavior and development;
- knowledge of social policies that affect children and families as well as the advocacy skills necessary to improve policies and services;
- skill in advanced practice related to assessment, intervention, and leadership development;
- skill in conducting research relevant to child and family practice and services;
- a field education practicum that will support the development of practice skills specific to advanced generalist practice in child and family services.
Upon graduation, students who have selected the Child and Family Services Concentration typically assume positions in public and non-profit social service organizations; school-based systems; and the full range of outpatient and community-based agencies designed to serve the needs of children and families.
