· Motion was made by Treasurer Garvey, seconded

Senator Leung, and
passed unanimously.
· President Dalton led us all in
introductions. We went
around the room and everyone said a little something about himself or herself.
· President Dalton told everyone about his or
her Student Government binders and explained the importance of bringing them to
all meetings. She also made a note that the binders did have to be returned at
the end of the year.
MOTION:
President Dalton
entertained a motion to modify
Robert’s Rules
for today’s meeting.
·Motion was made by Senator Alexis, seconded
by
Senator
Leung, and passed unanimously.
MOTION:
President Dalton
entertained a motion to move the
Meeting time from
4:00 to 4:30 due to scheduling
Conflicts.
DISCUSSION:
Chair King made the point that the time
change had to be posted for at least one
week before the motion
went into effect, so the next meeting will
remain at 4:00.
·Motion was made by Senator Santana, seconded
by
Senator Leung, and passed unanimously.
· President Dalton informed the group that Michael Kane has
resigned from the position of Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer Garvey has
stepped up to Treasurer. Screen-ins for
the position of Assistant Treasurer position will be in the near future.
· President Dalton introduced the Vice
President of Student Life, Dr. Stanley Cahill and he spoke for about 10
minutes. He informed us that the new
elevators being installed in the residence halls are on schedule and they will
be ready for use when the students return for second semester in January. He spoke about the new school at central
campus. The current business, music,
and IT classes will be moving in mid to late September of this year. He made note that when this change takes
place the traffic patterns will change now that students will be taking classes
on central campus. Also the new
residence hall that is being built in central campus is also on schedule and is
expected to be complete by July 2004.
This new hall is going to house 450 sophomores, juniors and
seniors. Vice President Cahill then
asked for feedback on the new shuttle plan.
Vice President Batastini informed him that the new route has not begun
quite yet. He told us that because of
budget cuts, there will be no bus services on weekends. Senator Santana asked Vice President Cahill
what ever happened to the proposed commuter rail stop behind McDonalds and he
explained that the plan fell through because the neighbors objected to the
noise. President Dalton then made note
that lots of students will be on foot walking to and from all the different
campuses and that everyone should make sure that the students are respectful to
the neighbors.
MOTION: Vice
President Batastini made a motion to accept the
President’s report.
· This motion was seconded by Senator Alexis
and it passed unanimously.
·Vice President Batastini reminded everyone
about the mandatory groups and clubs orientation on Saturday, September 13,
2003 from 9:00AM-1:00PM.
·Vice President Batastini announced the SGA
sponsored candlelight vigil on September 11th at 8:30PM at Alumni
Plaza. Unfortunately, President Dalton
and Dr. Brossoit will not be able to attend because they are attending Student
Advisory Council meeting.
·Vice President Batastini announced that at
the next meeting she will have contracts and health release forms for
Merrowvista, which are required to be filled out.
· Treasurer Garvey spoke about the speaker
series that we have funded in the past and mentioned the different amounts of
sponsorship that we could give. We can
donate $1500, $2500, or $5000. It is up
to the senate to decide what we will give. He passed a brochure around the room
which informed everyone who was going to be speaking this year. He also let
everyone know that Steve, the director of development, is going to be speaking
with the group at the meeting next Tuesday regarding the speaker series.
·Treasurer Garvey announced that he needs a
finance committee, which funds the groups and clubs.

· Secretary Spano reminded the senators that
they must hold office hours at least one hour per week and they are to use that
time to represent the students. Office
hours start next week, so she told them to sign up with Sharon as soon as
possible, preferably this week.
· Secretary Spano also told the gallery that
screen-ins for junior and senior senate will be occurring on Monday, September
15th during community time from 11-12:15. She asked everyone to talk to people and encourage them to pick
up an application. Applications are due
on Thursday, September 11th. We are
trying to fill senate seats as soon as possible so that everyone can be at
Merrowvista.
· Secretary Spano announced that attendance
to SGA meeting is mandatory and if by any chance you cannot make it, you must
see her or Sharon prior to your absence.
You are allowed three absences in a row, and seven in total.

COMMITTEE
· Chair King announced that freshman
elections were Thursday, September 11th and Friday, September 12th
and she is looking for people to sit at the voting table and urge people to
vote.
MOTION:
Chair King entertained a motion to accept Flora Mahoney to the rules
committee.

Treasurer Garvey, and passed unanimously.
MOTION: Chair King entertained a motion to appoint
Melissa Griffin to the rules committee.

Chair King entertained a motion to accept Melissa Ryan to the rules

Chair King entertained a motion to accept Chair Christina Ryer to the
rules committee.
·This motion was made by Treasurer Garvey,
seconded by Senator Trompke, and passed unanimously.
· President Dalton assigned the rules
committee to work on the problem of the referendum and invited Abe Scarr from
MASSPIRG to explain what a referendum was.
President Dalton hopes to fix this problem so that there is no
misunderstanding in the future.

LIFE COMMITTEE
· Chair Boucher introduces some of the ideas that she had for the
student life committee. This includes a
cut-a-thon where students cut their hair and donate it to Wigs for Kids or
Locks for Love. Also traffic light parties in which people who are in a
relationship wear red, people who are sort of looking for a relationship wear
yellow, and people who are really out looking for a relationship wear green.
She also wants to work on a concert and recycling.
· President Dalton assigns the student life committee the task of
finding out what the students want.

· Abe Scarr from MASSPIRG explained to the group what MASSPIRG
was and told us some of the things they were working on including an energy
audit on campus, Hunger and Homelessness campaign, Water Watch campaign, and
the Stop Global Warming Starts Here campaign.
MOTION: Chair King entertained a motion to appoint
Sharon Rivers Interim advisor for the week in order to count the ballots
because Dr. Brossoit is unable to fulfill his duty as advisor on Friday in the
counting of the ballots.
·Motion was made by Vice President Batastini,
seconded by Treasurer Garvey, and passed unanimously.
· Chair Boucher requests more information on
the new residence hall.
·Vice President Batastini reminds everyone
about the Leadership Induction on September 25th at 4:00PM in
Charlotte Forten Hall.
· Sharon Rivers tells everyone that there are
important dates in the binders and that next week they will receive another
calendar.
· President Dalton thanks everyone for coming
and asks everyone to brainstorm during the week about what they would like to
see happen this year.
