Chair Boucher pointed out that under the
student life committee
report meeting was misspelled.
President Dalton announced the minutes for
March 23, 2004,
were accepted as corrected.
· President Dalton introduced John Hayes who
came to talk on
behalf of Chartwells about food service and
changes that are
going to be made. He went through a list that was made by the
members of the food service committee and
commented on it.
The first concern was about roll over points
and he explained that
it is possible and it will go into effect
for Fall 2004. You will be
able to have your extra points rolled over
from the fall to the
spring semester. Next he explained that lunch is not included in
the two meals a day plan because it is too
hectic with all the
commuters and there is no control over the
amount of food taken
out of the cafeteria. There were also concerns about South
Campus dining hall not being open. He explained that it is
currently open Monday-Friday from 7-2
because the big time
afternoon eaters were the business students
who now are located
on Central Campus. In the Fall South Campus dining and
Central campus dining will be open from
7-7. Mr. Hayes also
mentioned putting a committee together to
discuss late night
hours.
If this is put into effect it would most likely be at South
Campus because they do not close for catered
events like the
other dining halls do. Another issue of concern was the demand
for vegetarian and vegan options. Some ideas they are looking
into are bringing a dietitian in to make
menus and offering a
cooking class at night on Central campus
where students will
learn how to cook healthy foods. The menu now is geared
towards typical college students between the
ages of 18 and 22
who want high carb and high sugar
foods. There is also a Terra V
with all vegetarian and vegan options and a
wok located in
downstairs Chartwells on North Campus. He also told us that if
anyone needs anything special than they can
just talk to the chefs
because they can make anything to order. Some students even
order the food in advance so it is ready for
them when they come
in, others bring in their own food and the
chefs store it for them
and make it for them when they want it. At least 10 people per
year
come in with special needs and they often meet with the
chefs and come up with a weekly menu. The next point of
concern was the catering costs for students. John Hayes’
response to this was if you have limited
money you can go in and
meet with him so something can be worked
out. The prices are
not set in stone and they can be worked out
with the students if
necessary.
Students were also concerned with downstairs
Chartwells closing early or stopping food
making 20 minutes
early.
The men from Chartwells were not aware of this and they
want students to tell them when this happens
because they
should not be closing early.
The reason for less food towards the
closing of the dining hall is that not many
students come in so
instead of wasting food they make everything
to order. Someone
raised a question about the inconsistency in
the prices in the
different dining halls and John Hayes
explained that pre-
packaged food is more expensive so typically
downstairs
Chartwells is cheaper. The people at Chartwells want to be more
involved they would love to come in and
speak at our meetings
more often to get student input. Currently they are working on
the menu for next year, so send in any
ideas.
· President Dalton then introduced Bruce
Perry who also had
some things he wanted to talk about. He needs commencement
ushers to help out at graduation and make
$60. If you sign up
you must be available May 21st
for rehearsal and May 22nd from
7:45-noon for graduation. Sign up sheets are on the door of room
