No Changes in the minutes
· President Dalton explained that she was
researching Robert’s
Rules and she found that we do not
have to accept the minutes, if
there are changes she can simply say, the
minutes are accepted as
changed so that we don’t have to vote and
hopefully it will save
some time.
She also said that she did not technically have to pass
the gavel over to the Vice President, but
she is still going to do so.
· President Dalton announced that Stephanie
Doiron has resigned from Sophomore Senate for personal reasons.
MOTION: President
Dalton entertained a motion to form an
AdHoc Concert Committee with Treasurer Garvey and
Senator Santana as Chairs.

All questions regarding the concert should now go to the
chairs.
·President Dalton announced that December 9
is our last meeting of the semester so she would like us all to do something
special, possibly a dinner to celebrate.
Everyone seemed to like the idea.
Chair Lappas made the request that we have anything but Chartwells.
· President Dalton brought up the Senate
training that has
been discussed a few meetings ago. She said that the E-Board
thought it would be better if each session
was divided among
class. Starting November 4, each class will
give some sort of
presentation to the Senate. You can invite someone in to speak,
you can speak, you can make a game, anything
you want. She
assigned a topic to each class:
Seniors- Time Management
Juniors- Robert’s Rules of Order
Sophomores- Connecting with
Constituents
Freshman- Roles Clarification
· President Dalton announced that screen-ins will be held on
Monday, November 3 during community time
(11-12:15).
Applications will be due by Friday, October
31, 2003.
· President Dalton informed the group that
she had requested
from the President, a list of all the
committee chairs on the
website.
She also mentioned that she was going to try to make
a
poster for the office.
· Vice President Batastini announced that
Homecoming went great. SGA won 3rd
place for the float competition!! She
thanked everybody for helping out and she thanked Kelly for the use of her
wonderful jeep. She also congratulated
Victor Santana and Andrea French who were this year’s Viking Spirit Award
winners.
· Vice President Batastini announced that the
Blood drive was also great. 82 people
tried to give blood and there were 52 that were able to donate. We beat our goal of 50 donors, which makes
this blood drive the best at Salem State in a long time.
· Vice President Batastini told us that she went shopping with Sharon to get
supplies for Haunted Happenings. They got most of the things and the things
they could not get, they will call the groups and let them know so that they
can go out and get it themselves.
· Vice President Batastini informed the group
that she met with the Catholic Student Community about Attitude for
Gratitude. She opened it up to Senator
Milan to give us more information.
Senator Milan explained that it is a way to get canned goods to
shelters. Whoever brings in the most
canned goods gets some sort of prize.
Chair Lappas asked if they were still having faculty boxes and Senator
Milan told him yes, boxes will be available in all departments to get faculty
involved too. The tentative date for
this is November 20, more information will be available next week.
· Vice President Batastini passed around
paper so that each person can write down their choice for Senator of the
Moment. The winner will receive 2
preferred tickets to Goldie Hawn.
· Vice President Batastini reminded everyone
that set-up for Haunted Happenings is on Saturday from 4-7. Meet in the lobby of the Campus Center. She also reminded everyone that Haunted
Happenings is on Sunday from 12-5, it is required and you must wear an
appropriate costume.
· Treasurer Garvey gave a brief concert
update. He listed off the
names of the people on his committee and
explained that there
were going to be 10 people from Program
Council and 10 people
from
SGA on the committee. He told those
people to meet with
him after the meeting. As of now there are no set meeting times.
They are in the preliminary stages right now
and concentrating
on getting funded, they sent a proposal to
the President
requesting funds from the reserves and
proposals to local
businesses.
· Treasurer Garvey went over the finance
guidelines.
· Assistant Treasurer Mazza has a report. He announced that On November 4 at 8:00pm, Goldie Hawn will be speaking at the O’Keefe center. He held a raffle and gave away 5 pairs of tickets. The winners were Senator Alexis, Senator Cogliano, Senator Milan, Chair King, and Senator Jimenez. Assistant Treasurer Mazza also announced that there were another 25 tickets that will be raffled off to the student body.
· Dr. Brossoit took this time to announce the
winner of Senator of the moment….It was Chair King. She so generously gave her general admission tickets from the
raffle to Senator Williamson because she knows that she really wanted to go.
· Secretary Spano requested that all the
Chairs leave a list of all members of their committees in her mailbox as soon
as possible.
· Secretary Spano passed around applications
for COSGA for all who were interested.
· Secretary Spano passed around the list that
everyone wrote their contact information on and asked them to write “no” next
to their names if they did not want their name and contact information on a
list to be distributed to everyone in the group.

MOTION:
Treasurer Garvey made a
motion to appoint Senator Jimenez to the Finance Committee.

· Treasurer Garvey informed the group that
the finance
committee met with WMWM, the school’s radio station and
they gave a proposal. The
finance committee decided to
fund them $2500 so that they can hire an engineer and get
some new equipment.
· Senator Cogliano asked the representatives
from WMWM
how they contribute to the school because no one really
knows about them. The
representatives replied that they
were trying to make the effort to contribute to the school, the
have already had some events, like the 80s dance.
MOTION: Treasurer
Garvey made a motion to give
WMWM $2500.

COMMITTEE
·Chair King announced that at her meeting she
will be working on re-wording the special election amendment, defining terms
for the glossary, and planning for the next elections so hopefully they can get
more people to vote.

STUDENT
LIFE COMMITTEE
· Chair Boucher said that she left a message
with Lt. Anglin about him coming to speak next week about parking and
buses. She has not received a response
yet.
· Chair Boucher asked for suggestions for her
committee meeting time because Thursdays at 2:30 are not working out because
everyone has class. She realizes that
time is inconvenient, but she is very busy so she is open to suggestions. Senator Abreu suggested that she make a list
of times that she is available and we’ll work around that.
· Chair King suggested that Chair Boucher
look into campus police escorts. On the
web site it says that they will come if needed, but they don’t come because
they feel like they are being abused.
Chair Lappas added that because it states they are there to help on the
web site than they are liable for anything that may happen as a result of
ignoring the call boxes.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS
· Chair Skorker informed the group that he
had met with Diane Lapkin about posting class cancellations online and she
thinks it is a wonderful idea. She is
going to bring it up at the next dean’s meeting.
· Chair Skorker also met with someone from
the registrar and he wants nothing to do with it. He also talked to him about labeling courses CE for computer
enhanced in the course catalogue.
· Chair Skorker announced that the location
of his meetings will be changed, he will e-mail his committee. His meeting is next Tuesday at 7:30.
· Chair Skorker filled us in on the status of
some of his research. There has been no
response on the e-mail drive. There
will be no registering online or posting grades online until at least August
2004. He is currently making
appointments to try to give athletes gym credits.
· GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS
· Chair Lappas announced that he still only had one person on his
committee so a few people requested to join.
MOTION: Chair Lappas entertained a motion to
appoint Treasurer Garvey, Senator Cahill, and Chair King to his committee.

Williamson (Unanimous)
· Chair Lappas informed the group that he was
working on posting safety hazards and setting up SAT tutoring sessions. He told us that the school received $35,
844, 000 from the state. He let us know
how he gets his information. Every week
he goes on state legislative website and it tells him what is up for debate and
gives him budget information. Dr.
Brossoit told him that he will give him more information as well.
· President Dalton announced that the Board
of Higher Education is going to start funding based on need not on the number of
students.
· Chair Lappas told the people who just
joined his committee to see him after the meeting so they can discuss a meeting
time. Sharon added that the committees
had to be represented equally so all members of the senate must be on one.

RELATIONS
· Chair Ryer announced that her meeting will
be Wednesday, October 22 downstairs in the campus center. They will be talking about the web site and
about campus police.
· Chair Ryer informed us that Chief Prey had
a concern about us putting our pictures on the website because he is concerned
with our safety. The group decided we
are still going to do it.
· President Dalton reminded all the chairs
that didn’t meet with her yet to do so as soon as possible.

· Senator Jimenez asked about the e-mail he
received regarding press release.
President Dalton told him that college relations is going to submit some
information to local newspapers for public
relations.
It is up to him if he chooses to participate.
· Senator Peralta noticed that on the COSGA
application it says
that the cost is $600. Treasurer Garvey explained to her that you
have to pay for your own food, souvenirs,
etc. You will only be
charged $600 if you sign up to go and then
bail out.
· Senator Williamson and Senator Theberge
announced that next
week is Global Warming Awareness Week. They are going to
distribute boxes to recycle. They went to the RHA meeting and
they are willing to help out so there will
be 1 or 2 boxes on every
floor of the residence halls and hopefully
in Chartwells. Her
phone number is on signs next to these boxes
so if they are full
people can call her to come empty it. This way no one will be put
out by it.
At the end of the week, October 30, they will display all
the collected recyclables and hopefully
someone will see how
much we need to recycle on campus. Chair
Lappas asked what
happened to the recycling bins they used to
have, Senator
Williamson told him that they were now used
for trash bins. Dr.
Brossoit added that the faculty were trying to recycle also. He
maintains a bin and it is always full. Senator Williamson and
Senator Theberge asked everyone to please
help them. There are
only 4 bins on campus. There will be a box in the SGA office,
please tell all your friends to help out.
· Chair Ryer said that in Bowditch the
janitors got mad that they
had the recycling bins on the floor. Senator Williamson said that
they wanted to “keep it cool”. They will be emptying the boxes
all the time. They also need people to donate boxes.
· Senator Theberge announced that also next
week they will have
a hybrid car on display with a
representative there telling
everyone all about it. Also next Thursday or Friday they will be
having a cut back on electricity day. They will also have a
display of endangered species and everyday
they will replace one
of the animals with a gravestone.
· Senator Alexis announced that MSA is having
their movie night
Wednesday, October 22 at 4:30 where they
will be watching Final
Destination 1 and 2. Also on Thursday, October 23 MSA will be
having a Halloween bash and a costume party.
· Senator Cahill announced that on Monday, October 27 Program
Council
is hosting Peter Jordan, ghost paranormal during
community
time and it is free. The 1st
100 people get free passes to
Haunted
Houses.
· Chair Skorker announced that there was a
concert on Thursday at 7:30 at Central Campus to inaugurate the new building.
· Jon Ring told the student life committee to
bring up the issue with the safety escorts to the Board of Trustees.
· Some people asked about the referendum and
it was clarified that it will be voted on next week. Chair King reminds Senator Cahill that he has to post the
referendum on the SGA board because it has to be posted for at least one week.
MOTION: President Dalton entertained a motion to
adjourn the meeting.
