The History of Raspberry Swirl
First Year
Raspberry Swirl is proposed as the first ever Salem State College Drag ball. The lineup consists of a mix of student performers (yay for actors who can dance) and professional performers from the Boston area.
The show goes off without a hitch and we have roughly 75 attendees show up for the event. It's decided that the show will continue as an annual event to help promote Transgender issues in the community.
Second Year
The show becomes entirely student performers, returners and amateurs. The expectations get upped with group numbers and a mix of on-the-fly dancing and choreographing. A new design if figured for lights and design and it becomes official, the Swirl is now "annual."
The show makes amazing progress and we make about $200 dollars to donate to Crombie Street Mission. In attendance the Swirl has nearly 200 people.
Third Year
The show as always goes off without a hitch and provides the audience with hours of Diva Greatness.
Performances by All the Kings men are amazing and dazzle the crowd. The show turns out a huge crowd and a generous donation gets made to Crombie Street Mission.
Fourth Year
The show has a plethora of new faces that shake up the stage. Longest running show yet, and the crowd just yearned for more. The directors of Swirl look to the GLBT community to make a donation this year and reward Waltham House (A GLBT Youth Shelter) a generous $500 for their contributions to the community.
Fifth Year
With so many performers, numbers get competitive as the talent pushes their limits. With a brand new space for performing, the Directors of Swirl are making this out to be the best show yet. Donations are going to NAGLY (Northshore Alliance of Gay/Lesbian Youth) in Salem for their dedication with the local GLBT Youth.
