Important Information About your Financial Aid

Financial aid is governed by federal, state and institutional regulations and policies. Additionally, such things as: deadlines, academic requirements and even what type of student you are, can all impact your eligibility to get,and keep your financial aid at Salem State. Don't wait! The 2017-2018 FAFSA application is now available!

There have been two major changes to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2017-18. One change is you can now complete it 3 months earlier; the other change is it will use the same tax information from your 2016- 2017 FAFSA. The changes are designed to help students complete their financial aid file more accurately and sooner. Students are encouraged to utilize the IRS Data Transfer option when filing the FAFSA. Alternative (Private) Student Loans

Private student loans, also referred to as alternative student loans, are great solutions to help you pay for college or graduate school if financial aid doesn't cover all of your expenses. Once a student is approved for a private loan Salem State will receive notification of the approval. Salem State is responsible for certifying information about the student, the lender and the loan amount before allowing the funds to come to the university.  Salem State will not certify a loan above a students cost of attendance.
