~ Latino Heritage Month 1999 ~

September 15th-October 15th is Latino Heritage Month at Salem State College. This time of the year is a special time for people of Hispanic and/or Latino descent. Histoically many Latin merican countries won their intedependence from colonial rule during the latter half of September. Additionally, the Columbus Day hiliday falls on the first half of the month of October. In Latin American countries, Columbus Day is celebrated as Día de la Raza (or the Day of the Races), to recognize the impact of the collision between Spanish culture and the indigenous cultures of Latin America."
