Counseling Services
Students frequently seek counseling for help with family or relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, managing stressful events, and other personal problems. In order to assist you in effectively facing these challenges and experiences, we offer confidential short-term counseling, workshops, and referrals to community providers. Consultation services are available for all members of the Salem State College community. For more information, call (978) 542-6410.

ADEPT (Alcohol & Drug Education, Prevention and Training)
The ADEPT Program emphasizes alcohol and drug abuse prevention through education. Individual and group counseling is available for any student who seeks assistance in exploring or changing problematic or addictive behaviors. Resources are available to assist and support students in recovery as they adjust to social and academic demands of college.

In additional to counseling sessions, ADEPT trains peer educators to assist professional staff in providing workshops on health-related issues, including stress management and relaxation skills. Confidential individual consultation is available upon request and referrals to community resources are provided, when appropriate. For more information, contact Allen Gaskell at (978) 542-6148.

Health Services
Health Services is committed to helping students maintain optimum health as they pursue their studies. In order to assist you, we offer primary medical care, consultation on specific health-related issues, health promotion programs and brochures, and referrals and collaboration with area providers. The following services are available: treatment of minor injuries or illnesses, over-the-counter medications for minor illnesses, allergy injections, strep tests, TB tests, gynecological care, contraceptive management, pregnancy tests, and routine physicals. For more information, call (978) 542-6413.

Student Health Insurance
Massachusetts state law mandates that all students registered for 3/4 of full-time status must have health insurance. If you are not covered by another health insurance plan, you must enroll in the Student Health Insurance Program. It is the student's responsibility to waive participation in this plan by certifying alternate coverage through the student billing process. Unless you submit a signed waiver form, you will be enrolled in and charged for the Student Health Insurance Program.

This insurance plan covers medical services provided outside of Salem State College; treatment provided at Health Services is free except for certain specialized diagnostic tests which will be billed to your health insurance plan. Health Services staff are available to answer questions at (978) 542-6414.
