Gender Neutral Housing
Residence life is committed to providing residents with safe, clean, well maintained, and comfortable housing while also demonstrating a commitment to diversity within all department initiatives, policies and services.
Gender neutral housing at Salem State is a living environment within our residence halls where student housing is not limited to one gender. The purpose of gender neutral housing is to provide a safe and comfortable living space for both individuals who identify as gender variant as well as their allies. Gender neutral housing provides options for students in the process of discovering their gender identity and helps create an environment that acknowledges, appreciates, and respects the diverse nature of the student body at Salem State University.
First Year Housing
First year students living in Bowditch or Peabody Halls, who are interested in gender neutral housing, should contact residence life, housing operations to discuss housing options.
Upper Class Housing
Atlantic Hall on Central Campus or the Bates Complex on South Campus both offer gender neutral housing options in select apartments. Both buildings consist of six-person apartments, with double and single rooms. In gender neutral designated apartments, multi-occupant rooms are considered to be gender neutral and students are assigned regardless of a student’s gender or biological sex. Students interested in gender neutral housing should contact or visit residence life to fill out a gender neutral housing application.
